I’ve wanted to do something fun with Post It notes for a little while and as we are on our summer break I finally have had the time to sit down and put this idea to paper. I started with this Bee Back to School Display. It really is simple to make and you can download the pack for free here on my blog, just head over to the Free Resource Library and if you haven’t joined, join and then you will have access to all my free resources, it’s a growing library and I do try and send out an email to let you know when new items have been added but I’m a bit lazy on the emails so please do check back regularly.
How to Make the Bee Display
Make sure to open the correct pack appropriate for you US Letter or A4 Paper both are provided. First, print the template then carefully cover the boxes with notes, the more careful you are here the better your display will be, it won’t be perfect and that’s fine but it will be super cute. Use one pack of notes or mix it up and use different ones, I have done this in the image for the light bulbs below. For the bee display, I decided to do a pink title, blue beehive and all yellow bees.
Choose your title or add them all. I have included both belong & bee-long just in case you prefer the correct spelling. Whenever I include a play on words in titles etc. I will always explain to children that we are being silly with our spelling and having a bit of fun and bee is the insect and be is the verb etc. I find that they remember this and will often hear them explaining to their parents and others about the spelling we have used.
How to Print Sticky Notes
Next is the tricky part – printing your notes. I have no trouble printing on notes and I hope it will be easy for you too, I do a printer clean often & I suggest you do this too before printing. some printers aren’t 100% accurate and you may find your alignment may be out, if you find this it may pay to try and align your printer but sadly it may be that your printer does not print accurately, I have had this problem with a printer previously and no matter what I did the printer did not align correctly.
Next, you need to do some trial and error and work out how you need to put the paper with notes into your printer. Does your paper sit in the paper drawer with notes face down or notes face up? Does the paper go upside down or the right way up? For my home printer, the notes sit face down and the page sits upside down in the printer drawer. once you have established this then choose the page you want to print and press print – do not adjust size or add borders.
Once you have printed all your pieces you are ready to go. I have designed the bees to allow the children to add a face, decorate and add their name, I have also made the template editable so you could add names but to be honest without the borders for each individual note this isn’t easy.
I picture this display with bees buzzing around the title and the hive, you can make it as little and as big as you like or you could just print all of this onto paper and make a display without sticky notes.
SOME TIPS: Print some extra bees for children’s mistakes, new arrivals, etc. Hang your display somewhere, where it’s not too windy as the notes may blow away. Use good quality notes that stick well.
I also have created a light bulb display with different titles speech bubbles etc. let me know if you think you might prefer that one – comment below or message me via Instagram and if there is enough interest I will add it to the library. Please do share with me how you get on, I really would love to see photos if you do create this, I love to see my ideas in action you can easily share with me on Instagram @kindergarten_matters via email etc.
