Out of all my rotation activities, probably the least loved activity would have to be “Read the Room”. It’s the activity that I will often hear a groan when we do a quick go-through of everyone’s reading agenda. Like every teacher, I’m always trying to make things a little more fun & exciting, so I had this idea – reading wands! Bright, fun, enticing reading wands which are only for “Read the Room”. I have hand pointers and other bits of pieces but these were specially made by me especially for “Read the Room” and I sold them on this factor. And yes they were a hit, I don’t get the groan or little people drifting off to a different activity, well for now anyway.🤞🏻
The wooden wands came from Kmart and they were 2 for $1.50. I wished I had bought more as they don’t seem to have any at the moment. However, you can grab wands online or from many craft stores. On mine, one side reads “Read the Room” and the other side “Superstar Reader”. I painted them first and then used my Cricut to label them. The fonts I used are AG “Can You Not Bold” and KG “The Fighter” and I added some stars from Design Space and that’s it, they really didn’t take long at all, and I kind of love them myself.
