My Number 1. Classroom Management Idea
This is without a doubt my Number 1 classroom management technique it is my most used, easiest to implement and it works - Mat Manners or Rug Rules cards. These simple cards ALWAYS sit on my whiteboard (teacher station) I introduce them on day 1 our kindy visits and for the first few days/weeks I visit, remind and reinforce them daily. They are super simple to make or you grab mine from my TpT store Kindergarten Matters this pack includes both Mat Manners and Rug Rules with a fun wheel and a cut and paste worksheet.
If a child is not following our class Mat Manners (here in NZ we use the word mat) I will point to a card & signal to remind them. They are honestly so effective & helpful and we regularly visit them & discuss them as necessary.
My classroom rules are:
- Sit sensibly legs crossed & hands in your lap.
- Eyes on teacher/speaker or forward.
- Sit quietly on the mat.
- Raise your hand when you want to speak.
- Listen to the speaker.
